. Says one million women'll protest naked if...

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State said yesterday that over one million women would protest noond if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should attempt to repeat the electoral sham in Anambra State in Ekiti State next year.

APC Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, who said the party was worried especially that Ekiti was next in line for the conduct of governorship election next year, claimed that the state would not tolerate "the sham that the electoral body perpetrated in Anambra State". Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Awe said: "We saw protest by women in Anambra, but expect a million women in Ekiti who will go naked.

We will not tolerate it. What happened in Anambra State is an indication of the rottenness in INEC.

"INEC has to prove itself before the 2014 election in Ekiti and Osun states before we can trust it as a reliable umpire. Without further delay, INEC must put its house in order and conduct a review of voters' register. The register must be displayed a month before election".

He said the conduct of last weekend's governorship election in Anambra State was an indication of danger lurking in the corner for the nation's democracy, adding that INEC had been hijacked by some hawks bent on derailing civil rule in the country. Awe, however, urged the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to flush those he described as undesirable elements in the commission.

Awe, who wondered why INEC could not conduct a credible poll in just one out of the 36 states of the federation, making a mockery of democratic tenets, said: "INEC boss, Prof. Attahiru Jega, is surrounded by hawks. "His people have been bought and they connived to make a mess of the electoral process in Anambra State.

The virus in INEC must be flushed out. What happened in Anambra, if it is repeated at national level, could truncate democracy in the country, the development in Anambra must be condemned by all.

"We are speaking out now to prevent the spread of the fire in Anambra and alert all necessary quarters and to caution all those involved in the Anambra trouble.

It is not funny that 72 hours after the poll, it is still inconclusive. Nobody in Ekiti State is going to take that from INEC when it conducts our own poll next year," Awe added.
