Cross River State - Relief Materials Arrive Inyima for Distribution

Several million Naira worth of relief materials have arrived Inyima village in Yakurr Local Government Area as palliative to the displacement of the community following an invasion by the neighbouring Adum communities in Obubra LGA over land tussle.

 

The materials included rice, beans, garri, salt, oil, mattresses and other sundry items.

The consignment which arrived in 3 trailers were packed into the few surviving buildings awaiting formal presentation and distribution by the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The over 4000 victims of the crisis which occurred on June 2, 2013 expressed joy at the magnanimity of the state Government stating that the gesture would give them the needed succour to enable them pick back their shattered lives again.

Our correspondent who witnessed the arrival and offloading of the relief materials said that the people received the gesture with mixed feelings of sadness and joy.Chief Ferdinand Eyo (68) expressed the feeling in these words "it is pathetic that our community is in this sorry state over what could have been resolved amicably".

Mr. Innocent Itinya (70) said Government has done well by relieving them with materials and that it was a right step towards the rehabilitation of the community socially, psychologically and politically.

"Government should endeavour to hastily demarcate our boundaries with our warring neighbours to avert future disaster" he said.

 

Mr. Joseph Ode (67) said "even if it is a buffer zone created on our land I sincerely do not mind but what is paramount and necessary now is a Government recognized boundary".

Mrs. Regina Ezeoke (57) expressed, "We have always seen them as brothers but look around and see the devastation, does this show any brotherliness? We need a boundary".

The Inyima Town Council Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Nkoro assured that the people of Inyima shall maintain peace.

It would be recalled that Inyima community in Yakurr Local Government area was on June 2, 2013 invaded by the Adum group of villages over land tussle.

300 houses were destroyed displacing about 5,000 persons including the most vulnerable women and children.
