Politicians lose favor for many reasons. Sometimes it's a buildup of things so overwhelming that even the under-informed get it: Sarah Palin's increasing perception as a mean-spirited, know-nothing, money-grubbing quitter. Mitt Romney's almost farcical flip-flopping. Or Newt Gingrich's hypocrisy, fueled by the discovery of his own affair with a younger staffer while he was constantly chastising President Clinton about Monica Lewinsky.Sometimes a politician just steps in something unexpectedly, like tar. George Allen, former good-ole' boy Virginia senator who was a leading contender for the 2008 presidential election called a young American of color a "macaca" on video. Twice. Bu-bye.More...

One of my favorite Greek philosophers, Plato, once wrote, "The direction in which education starts a man, will determine his future life." The indisputable fact is that a strong education provides youth with more opportunities for success in the long-run. Of course, there are many cases of individuals who have thrived without any formal education at all, but these cases are few and far between. Nowadays, it seems that a tertiary (university or college) degree only gets you in the door.You might be surprised to hear that according to the United Nations, the percentage of adults who have attained a tertiary education is 39% in the United States. This compares to 55% for Russia, 46% for Canada, 30% for the United Kingdom, 21% for Greece, and 10% for Italy. Americans are among the most educated individuals in the world. Of course, one of the main differences between the US and other countries is the absence of a nation-wide, state-funded university system of institutions.  Nevertheless, American students (and their parents) invest a significant amount of their own disposable income to attain these relatively high tertiary graduation rates.More...

This week, Brad and the remaining three women went to South Africa to face big fears, big dreams, and even bigger bottles of wine. We've all been there.  That college party where things are getting super sweaty and awkward.  All you want to do is drink your sorrows away, forget about the beads of sweat forming between your purposely exposed cleavage, and learn how to ignore all of the backpacks full of Red Dog bumping your head into the bosom of a slutty looking sorority sister.Ugh, now that I'm thinking about it; it's no wonder college kids drink the way they do...look what they have to deal with on a nightly basis!More...

It's been pointed out numerous times of late that those good protesters who dumped tea into Boston Harbor in 1773 weren't against taxation. They wanted representation! Last month, an annual fundraiser was held in Yorba Linda, Calif., to raise money for combating homelessness and domestic abuse in the local community. Sounds great, right? It's something that Christians, Jews and other faith groups do frequently, except this event happened to have been organized by Muslims.Families who had given up a relaxing Sunday evening at home to attend their community's chicken dinner fundraiser were forced to walk past an angry mob that had gathered hours earlier in protest of their banquet. Shouts of  "We don't want you here! Go back home! Go back home! Go back home!" and awful insults to the Prophet Muhammad were yelled as Muslim parents and their children entered the community center.
