President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the cardinal point of his government if elected in the next month polls would be unity, which he said was vital to the nation's economic growth.

Jonathan, who spoke in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, yesterday during his campaign tour of North-East states, said that no nation would develop without unity among its citizens.

The President, who promised to ensure regular power supply in the country, pointed out that Nigeria's economy couldn't grow without steady power.

To address the power crisis in the country, Jonathan said that the current administration had embarked on the construction of dams to build more hydro-power stations.

He pointed out that when the Mambila hydro-power station under construction in Taraba State was completed, the power supply crisis in the North-East would be addressed.

The president, who stated that the Federal Government could not effectively revive small and medium scale industries unless power supply improved, noted that Nigeria being the giant of Africa cannot afford to trade with the future of the country in the name of politics.

On the April elections, the president, who warned troublemakers to stay away from polling units, threatened to deal with anybody that attempted to destroy the peaceful conduct of the polls.

Jonathan, who reinstated his gospel of one-man-one vote, urged the electorate to stay behind after casting their votes to ensure that they were counted and recorded.

"Don't fight or kill because you want somebody to be president or governor in your state. My government will not treat such people with kid-gloves, because they are enemies of democracy and they must face the full wrath of the law," he said.

In his remarks, Vice President Namadi Sambo said that the presidential campaign team was in Adamawa State not to solicit for votes, but to thank the people of the state for their support.

He pointed out that the reception accorded the team proved that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had already won the state ahead of the polls.

Why welcoming the President, Governor Murtala Nyako assured Jonathan that the people of the state would give him 100 per cent of their votes.

He, however, appealed to the president to award contracts for the completion of Hong-Mubi road and Ngulere-Jada road, pointing out that the poor conditions of the roads in the area had affected the economy of the state and the entire country.
