The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius A. Okojie, has reiterated the Commission's commitment to ensuring that universities in the country achieved full accreditation status for, at least, 80% of their academic programmes.
.
Briefing participants of the 2014 Short Course of the National Institutes for Policy and Strategies Studies (NIPSS), who paid an educational visit to the Commission, Professor Okojie stated that the NUC was fully committed to the maintenance of a stable and crisis-free university system.
.
Professor Okojie highlighted the development of the National Policy on Education (NPE) from 1925 to 1943, saying that the first colonial Policy on education, which was developed in 1925, generally, focused on the entire African continent.
.
He stated that although the Policy cut across primary and secondary education, it, however, laid emphasis on adult education as a ready tool for advancing the colonial policy. He added that the Policy was severally modified in 1935, 1940 and 1943, to produce literate Nigerians to serve as interpreters to the colonial administration.
