President Obama laid out his "Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future" in a major policy speech on Wednesday, saying the U.S. needs to reduce oil imports by one-third in a little more than a decade. With gas approaching $4 a gallon, Obama is pushing for more natural-gas-powered vehicles, more biofuels and "more powerful incentives to consumers" to buy alt-energy vehicles. He said Americans need to "get serious" about their energy future, warning, "We can't rush to propose action when gas prices are high and then hit the snooze button when they fall again."
