Chinese IT company, Neusoft, intends to reduce jobs in Finland

The Chinese IT solutions & services company Neusoft plans to reduce the number of its employees in Finland significantly.

According to Ville Wiik, the CEO of the Finnish Neusoft Mobile Solutions Oy, the need for cost-saving measures is partly related to the Finnish mobile phone manufacture Nokia's new strategy.

"It is clear that Nokia's change of strategy has direct and indirect impacts on the entire mobile phone industry in Finland", Wiik notes.
     
Nokia announced in February that it will start utilising Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system as the primary software platform for its smartphones. The decision has caused problems for companies that have been acting as subcontractors for Nokia, providing the mobile phone company with Symbian- and MeeGo-based software, testing, and other services.
     
The co-determination talks launched by Neusoft will affect the company's entire staff in Finland. The company has operations in five localitions and the total number of employees falls just shy of 200.

According to Wiik, the co-determination talks could lead to reductions of up to 100 jobs, while the number of offices will also be placed under scrutiny. The previous co-determination talks at Neusoft early this year resulted in layoffs and dismissals of a few dozen employees.
     
Several companies operating in the mobile phone industry have reduced staff over the spring in order to adapt their organisation to the new situation.
     
"The mobile phone industry is facing a period of transition", says Wiik.

Listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Neusoft employs almost 18,000 people worldwide. The Chinese company arrived in Finland in 2009 by acquiring the Finnish mobile solutions company, Sesca's mobile phone software development and testing business operations.
