The Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has assented to a law empowering the state's Attorney-General to prepare a new and revised edition of the Laws of Ondo State.

While signing the bill into law, Mr Mimiko said that the last time a similar exercise took place was in 1978.

He said that with his assent there would now be ample opportunity to update the laws contained in the volumes of Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006 and for other connected or ancillary purposes.

To him, this was an idea whose time had come in order for the state to keep abreast of current trends in law.

The State House of Assembly had earlier passed the bill for the revised edition of the laws of Ondo State for the assent of the governor.

Mr Mimiko has restated his commitment to taking decisions that would benefit the majority of the people of the state with an admonition to members of the state executive council to rededicate themselves to the service of the people.

The governor stated this during the dedication of the newly rehabilitated state executive council chambers of his office in Akure, the state capital.

The weekly state executive council meetings, in the last three months, had been held inside the banquet hall of Government House in order to pave way for the renovation of the council chambers.

However, Wednesday's weekly council meeting was held in the new council chambers, shortly after its dedication by Tunde Adesida, a church elder, who was joined by Michael Ipinmoye, a bishop of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), and Sanya Kolajo, a pastor of the Redeemed Chrisman Church of God (Province IV), Akure.

According to Mr Mimiko, his administration had embarked on the renovation and rehabilitation of the secretariat complex in Akure so as to make it more befitting and attractive, adding that most parts of the complex were in a deplorable state requiring urgent attention.
