A UK-based firm, Global Pathways, in partnership with ContainerSpace Ltd and the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, REDAN, have concluded arrangement to invest $1b (N155b) within the next  five years in a new technology that will employ the use of containers to construct low cost houses in Nigeria.

Managing Director of Global Pathways Ltd, Prince Ifeanyi Ndianaefo, at a seminar on Container Homes financing option and alternative strategies for Mass Housing Delivery, held in Abuja, said that the scheme will be financed by funds sourced overseas, covering a five-year rolling plan that includes the building of container pre-fabricated factories in the six geo-political zones, provision of millions of hostel accommodation in over 20 schools, and low income houses in Niger Delta, as well as in other selected areas of the country.

He noted that the technology, known as Container Space, is a new concept in affordable pre-fabricated buildings, suitable for all types of housing projects and utilises insulated container panels in the construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings devised by an architectural firm, Nicholas Lacey & Partners.
