A second term senator and Vice Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Smart Adeyemi, on Monday alleged that some political opponents were offering millions of Naira to lawmakers at the upper chamber to reject some of the President's nominees.

Adeyemi who spoke to newsmen in Abuja said, "We have been under intense pressure by lobbyists and political hired mercenaries to stop some nominees from being cleared or to disqualify some nominees by asking questions to embarrass them and stop them.

"They have given many of us sleepless nights with offer of millions of Naira so as to discredit some nominees.

"We have been told that some people should not be allowed to pass through the screening simply because they effected or carried out reforms that will empower Nigeria rather than foreign interest.

"In this crusade are some multi-national companies and their agents who feel that some re-nominated ministers, who were part and parcel of the reform programme and agenda aimed at empowering Nigerians as regards local content in the process of industrialization, should be stopped in order to kill such reforms."

The list of the nominees is expected to be read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Senator David Mark, on Tuesday.

If truly this claim is real, then future looks very bright for the nation. At times, politicians use propaganda to gain cheap popularity. Practical evidence is more lucid than just speaking. If our senators are ready to work with sincerity of purpose and selfless mind, Nigeria will greatly improve democratically. Or what do you think?

l agree with your notion, "Practical evidence is more lucid than just speaking".

lt is almost impossible for Nigerian politicians to resist bribe, especially when it amounts to millions of naira.

In my view, most Nigeria lawmakers are politician, representing their own interest, rather than their constituencies.

l stand to be corrected.
