The proposed multi-party cabinet can't work - Jonathan

The multi-party cabinet proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan to leaders of opposition political parties during his consultative meeting with them at the State House on June 4, will not materialize.

Jonathan told the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of the Labour Party and  and his Anambra State counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance party, at a late night meeting with them in Abuja on Monday that he was facing opposition from his Party (PDP) on the subject.

"I am under intense pressure from my party, I am sorry about that," Jonathan reportedly told the governors.

The two governors, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and Mr. Peter Obi endorsed Jonathan as their presidential candidate during the April election.

What does multi-party cabinet entails? Has there been anywhere in the world where such happens? From my knowledge of Nigerian politics, winners take all have been the styles. Even at the state level, has any of the governors in the opposition parties embrace such in their appointment?

Charity begins at home. Let the governors appoint people from opposition parties as part of their commissioners, special advisers etc. Then, they can proof their point better. Otherwise, no accusation for President Jonathan and his party, PDP. Believe!

I think the president knows fully well that his party will never allow an opposition in the PDP led-government, even if he will.

In my view, he used the governor of Ondo and Anambra state to achieve his goal, by pacifying them to support his presidential ambition and promising to work with them.
