Following governor Babatunde Fashola's second-day tour of flood affected areas in parts of the state as a result of last Sunday's heavy down pour, the Lagos State Government has ordered the demolition two churches and a restaurant.

One of the churches is located at Bariga, while the other one is under construction at Somolu, as well as the restaurant.

Fashola declared that his government would identify and remove all obstructions to drainage channels in the state.

The governor, who also inspected drainage systems in Gbagada, Somolu, Iganmu and parts of Surulere, said he would no longer tolerate construction and any other human intervention on established drainage and flood channels.

He lamented that after building more canals, people obstructed the connecting channels resulting in restriction to the free flow of water during the rains.

Fashola pointed to the church under construction and the bar and restaurant at Somolu as examples.

"They have to go too because they are on the canal setback where, ordinarily our machines should take position to work. People cannot build there; it is unacceptable," Fashola said.

I don't know if its until we have a great local and national problems in our hands that we kind try to find an immediate solutions. This issue of drainage has been one of the greatest problems in Lagos state, but kick backs and wetin our people go shop if or when our livelihood is being destroyed or demolished, as cost a millions of Naria. Just imagine how many lives and property that was lost.
I just hope Fashola will be able to find a lasting solution to this drainage issue.
