Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja says that Finland might be doing the whole of Europe a favour by seeking guarantees for the Greek bailout. In an interview with the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, Tuomioja noted that it would be worth looking back to the current dispute a few years later.

Tuomioja said that, in fact, economic sustainability was the purpose behind the demands for Greek collateral.

He said that a solution to the dispute over guarantees would be found.

According to the Foreign Minister, Finland's influence in the EU has not been jeopardised by the debate raging around the issue of Greek loan guarantees.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen expressed concern over Finland's reputation in an interview with the YLE morning TV show.
