Fresh nine die in Plateau hostility

 NO fewer than nine people – consisting of a family of eight and a guest – were on Friday killed by  unidentified gunmen at Foron Village in Barkinladi Local Council of Plateau State. The dawn attack makes it fourth of such since Monday this week.

Reports say  the attackers, sporting black, and numbering  more than 30,  overpowered members of the vigilance group that were keeping vigil owing to their superior weapons.

Majority of the  villagers were said to have  expressed disappointment at the lax security provided by the Plateau State government since the  killings resumed in the area this week.

They are, according to reports, tasking  the state government to withdraw the soldiers posted to the area and allow them take up arms to face their enemies whom they identified as Fulani herdsmen.

The villagers alleged that the assailants came from a village that is about 10 kilometres away, and is predominantly inhabited by the herdsmen.

More than 100 people have lost their lives to fresh hostilities in the past two weeks in the state.

Plateau and other Northern states are now known for frequent hostility and destruction of lives and properties. l wonder what states and the federal government is doing towards the horrible situation. Is just mounting soldiers there that would calm down the situation or devising strategic security practices at strategic places?
