Jigawa State Government Agrees To Pay N18,000 Minimum Wage

JIGAWA State government has agreed to pay its workers N18,000 minimum wage  starting from April, saying that implementation of the pay will start from October.

This was disclosed by the state branch chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Sulaiman Adamu Kiyawa, while speaking to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday.

Kiyawa said "the government also agreed to pay six-month arrears to workers .

According to him, "though we are yet to sign the agreement,  we are at the last stage of the agreement, that is, the issue of the modality of payment of the arrears. When that is concluded, the NLC and the government will finally sign the agreement."

The NLC chairman added that "the state government directed the Ministry of Salary and Pension in the state to compute the total amount of the arrears to be paid to workers of the two categories of senor and junior personnel."

He further stated that the ministry had gone far on the assignment and the NLC officials were supervising the computation and work was in progress.
