Robbers attack Katsina village, kill 3

SUSPECTED armed robbers have attacked Hayin-Yan-Borkono village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing three people and injuring several others.  

It was gathered that the robbers stormed the village Sunday at about 2.00pm and carted away undisclosed amounts of money.  

Those killed included the chairman of the Funtua traders' association, 48-year-old Alhaji Abdulmumini Lawal, who has since been buried according to the Islamic rites. He is survived by two wives and six children.

It was learnt that most of the victims were cotton merchants in the area among whom were a former councillor of Funtua Local Government Area, Alhaji Lawal Adamu and four others who were taken to Funtua General Hospital.

A resident of the area, Muhammad Sani , said "the robbers launched a house-to-house attack in the village and spent hours operating before they fled.Many people were shot. Two died on the spot, while the chairman of traders' association died in the hospital yesterday".

Efforts to get the reaction of the state police command were unsuccessful as all the GSM numbers of the Police Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abubakar, were switched off as at the time of filing this report.
