Imbibe Road Maintenance Culture – Aregbesola Charges Osun People

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun  State has called on the people of the state to imbibe the culture of road maintenance, with a view to ensuring that the people of the state enjoy the longevity of life of roads.

He gave the charge in Ila-Orangun last Friday, while commissioning projects, including roads construction carried out by the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ila Local Government Council Area, Honourable Segun Awotunde.

According to the governor, road maintenance is not the sole responsibilities of motorists, saying that other road users should also desist from dumping refuse by the roadsides, as dumping of refuse on the roadsides, also contribute to the shortage of lifespan of the roads.

Aregbesola noted that the idea of leaving road maintenance to government alone should not be allowed to continue, as government was ready to involve every stakeholder in road maintenance with a view to giving the roads longevity they deserve.

The projects carried out by the council boss and commissioned by the governor were the newly-constructed Mosafuneto to Ariwajoye Street and St. Michael Anglican Church Road in Ila-Orangun.

Other projects showcased by the council boss were the employment of 120 voluntary teachers called Awo Corps; employment of 150 young school leavers; employment of 45 casual labourers, production and distribution of 150 eye glasses for the citizen of the council area; inauguration of Widows' Welfare Scheme, as well as granting of N2.5 million cash donation to first set of rainstorm disaster victims among others.

Responding, the council boss lauded the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of the council area and contribute his quota to the development of the state, saying that he was following the path of the governor, to ensure the actualization of his six-point integral action plan.

Commending the governor's initiative on the employment of 20,000 youths, under Osun Youths Empowerment Scheme (OYES); the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Programme (OREAP) and Osun Clean (O'CLEAN) among others, he said that the programmes would continue to impact positively on the lives of the people.

He then promised to follow the path of Aregbesola with a view to joining the state government for the development of the state.
