Two police inspectors dismissed over gun running

Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed that a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police and two Inspectors were arrested in connection with illegal sale and distribution of arms and ammunition to criminals in the state.  

The retired armourer, ASP Abuna Mainasara, Inspector Daniel Eliphas and Inspector Abubakar Hali would soon be charged to court for gun running. Already the two serving inspectors have been dismissed from the force.  

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba said that other arms recovered from the dismissed police officers include 2 AK 47 riffles, 1,200 rounds of live ammunition and one empty magazine.

"During interrogation, they mentioned one Stephen Tizhe as their partner who is a civilian. Investigation is still continuing while the two serving inspectors have been dismissed from the force and all of them will soon be charged to court", the police commissioner said.

He said the report of the removal of arms from the armoury was not by armed robbers as speculated but rather it was by the new sergeant posted to the unit who was requested to continue the "business" with them after the retired armourer left office.

The police boss also denied the arrest of the officer in charge of the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad and 20 other policemen by the renowned crime fighter Alhaji Ali Kwara.

"The command wishes to state that the said officer has worked closely with Ali Kwara at many times and there was no time that Ali Kwara arrested any police officer within the command for the offence of armed robbery", Shinaba said.
