AGAIN, President Goodluck Jonathan has echoed his support for  the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson in next Saturday's governorship election, as he assured him of victory.

The last time the President spoke on Dickson's candidacy was when the national leadership of the party paid him  visit at Aso Rock soon after former Governor Timipre Sylva filed a suit against PDP, seeking that he be declared be the authentic governorship candidate of the party.

On that occasion, the President told the party stalwarts not to be intimated by Sylvia's action.

The President, who spoke yesterday  at the handing over of  the PDP's flag to Dickson at the main bawl of theState sport complex in Yenagoa, lamented the poor level of development in the state.

According to him, every society needs development, which is the essence of governance.

He said as a deputy governor under Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, they started what was supposed to be the tallest building in the Niger Delta region, a five-star hotel with international conference centre that can host any capacity of meeting, but regretted  that the Sylva administration abandoned the project.

"As a governor, I continued with that project, which was  supposed to an historical monument , but today it has been abandoned by the  Sylva administration, and has   now become  a monument of disgrace."

Jonathan assured Bayelsans that with the Dickson as governor that things  would soon turn around for the better.

The Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Kaoje Barage, while presenting Dickson to the electorate , used the occasion  to debunk claims of controversy over who is the authentic flag bearer of the party.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, who alongside his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Chief Godswill Akpabio, accompanied the President and Vice President Namadi Sambo to the campaign, saying as South-South people, they have to continue to  support the President and urged  the electorate to vote for PDP in the election.

The Acting Governor of the state, Mr. Nestor Binabo, assured the PDP supporters that, they (Bayelsa PDP members) as a people, have sorted out their differences and called on them to vote for the PDP candidate.
