Alleged N44m bribe: Reps ask Hembe, SEC to ceasefire

ABUJA – MEMBERS of the House of Representatives,Thursday, advised both legislators involved in the alleged N44million scam and Security and Exchange Commission, SEC to ceasefire pending the outcome of the adhoc committee on Ethics and privileges report.

Addressing journalists during the weekly briefing, Spokesman of the House, Rep Zakari Mohammed said, "it is necessary that all parties involved in the matter to give the committee the benefit of doubts and wait for its report.

"The committee has 21 days to work on the matter and I can assure you  that there will be fair hearing for all the parties involved.

Rep. Herman Hembe & Ms. Arummah Oteh SEC should caution its Spokesman from issuing inflammatory statements on this issue as Rep Herman Hembe has kept silent waiting for the outcome of the panel's report. And you know that with this issue on ground the integrity of the House of Representatives has been called to question."

On the awaited Fuel Subsidy committee report, Mohammed said: "the report will soon be made public and Nigerians are already feeling the impact of the probe as it has led to a drop in the rise of the dollar. Also, it has led to the stabilisation of the naira and this is a clear indication that we are on course."

Mohammed maintained that despite the corruption allegations, proceedings of both the committees on capital market and Ethics and Privileges would be covered live by the Press.

"Though expensive, we do not have anything to hide. There will be live coverage of both committees and all parties will be given a fair hearing."
