General

The British High Commission is looking for two full time Immigration Liaison Assistants, one for a 12 month renewable contract, and the other for a 6 month temporary contract, to work in its busy Visa Section.

Job Description

The British High Commission is looking for two Immigration Liaison Assistants (ILAs) to work in the Risk and Liaison Overseas Network Office. The Unit is part of the UK Border Agency and provides support to the visa operation as well as being responsible for liaising with stakeholder.  The successful candidate will undertake a variety of tasks including researching trends in visa applications, initial dealings with passengers referred to the BHC by airlines and checking application details against confidential databases.  For this reason, the successful candidate must hold a British passport.  Additional duties will include writing reports, creating and maintaining databases and general administrative tasks.

Qualities needed

We are looking for a British passport holder with good oral and written communication skills. In particular, successful candidates will be able to work quickly and accurately, often under pressure, have a positive approach to tackling problems and a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

The most important qualities required are diligence, resilience, a flexible approach and the ability to work well both in a small team and individually.

Previous experience of working within a visa section or other office environment, good keyboard skills and a working knowledge of computer software packages (notably MS Word, Excel and databases) is essential.

Confirmation of appointment will be subject to the successful applicant obtaining the necessary level of security clearance.

One of these appointments is a fixed term 12 month renewable contract and the other is a temporary 6 month contract.  Working hours are from 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8:00am – 1.00pm on Fridays.  The appointments are graded LE III with a monthly starting salary of N238,620.00.  The appointment will be subject to a six month probationary period for the 12 month contract and 3 months for the temporary 6 month contract.  Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on their monthly salary.  The salary will be paid in Naira.
