Constitutional order to be restored in Mali, says FG

     The Federal Government said there are indications that constitutional order would be speedily restored to Mali following a meeting with a delegation from the leadership of the military junta that took over power in Mali in a coup last month.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja after a closed door meeting with the delegation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mr. Ode Ogbole said "from the meeting there are indications that constitutional order will be speedily restored in Mali." Quoting minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, Ogbole said "Nigeria continues to work in close collaboration with the leadership of ECOWAS especially President Alhassane Ouatarra of Cote d'Ivoire.  Accordingly, President Jonathan has initiated further consultations with ECOWAS leadership and some of the principal actors in Mali to resolve the issue."

Earlier, the head of the junta delegation, Colonel Blonkoro Samake, said the head of the junta, Captain Amadou Sanogo, asked them to come to Nigeria and explain the unfolding events in the West African country and solicit for support to tackle the Tuareg insurgency in the northern part of the country.
