Guber race: Akure North LG electorate assure Mimiko of their votes •As 2,000 opposition members defect to LP

THE electorate in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Saturday, promised not to disappoint the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, during the next governorship election in the state.

The people from Itaogbolu promised to cast their vote for Mimiko in the election slated for October 20.

Speaking at a meeting in Itaogbolu, representatives of the people from the area assured of the readiness of their followers to work assiduously in realisation of the governor's second term ambition.

They argued that based on the performance of the governor in the last three years, the people of the state should vote for him for another term.

At the occasion, some members of the opposition political parties from Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Nigerian People's Party (ANPP) defected to the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.

Addressing the crowd, the chairman of the caretaker committee for Akure North Local Government Area, Femi Ofakunrin, disclosed that the meeting was organised with the aim of bringing the people together from the four wards within the town to educate and mobilise them for the next election.

The council boss told the party loyalists that Governor Mimiko had approved the construction of a mega primary school in the town.

According to him, the construction of a modern town hall would soon commence in the town, adding that plan had been concluded for the construction of the popular Ona bridged in the town.

Receiving the defectors to the fold of the LP, the chairman of the state Asphalt Company (OSAC), Niran Jogbodo, commended them for taking the bold step and advised them to attend the party's meeting in their wards.
