Chime tasks principals on moral decadence

Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime has called on heads of post-primary schools in the country to identify and address the increasing rate of moral decadence and poor performance of their students in various national examinations.

Chime made the call at the opening ceremony of the 55th Annual National Congress of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in Enugu, on Tuesday.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, noted that secondary education in the country had over the years, suffered a set back.

This, he said, could be attributed to the pervasive corruption in all aspects of national development, poor attitude to work by some teachers, lack of basic teaching tools and requisite intellectual and professional qualifications among some teachers.

He, however, commended ANCOPSS for its significant role in the advancement of educational development in more than 50 years of its existence and urged principals to use the conference to discuss issues relating to exam malpractices" truancy and poor work ethics among teachers, which had dented their reputations.

The National President of ANCOPSS, Chief Adeniyi Falade, said ANCOPSS' members, as senior key players in the education industry made very commendable contributions to the onerous task of educating the Nigerian citizenry in the past years.

Falade pointed out that ANCOPSS needed strong commitment from all stakeholders to give the education sector a positive turn around.
