Olympics qualifier: Home based D’ Tigers conclude closed camp

Home-based Nigerian male basketball players at the weekend rounded off  the first phase of a two- day intensive camping exercise geared towards the the London Olympics at the National Stadium in Lagos  The Olympic Games qualifier is billed for Venezuela from  July 2  to 8, 2012.

Some of the players in camp include centre, Adeniyi Adebayo, power forward, Oyeka Ekpete, small forward, Ibrahim Yusuf, guard, Azuoma Dike and point guard, Michael Ohiero.They were guided through the exercise by coaches Ayinla Johnson, Ayo Bakare and Ahmed Sani.

According to the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, the exercise is also a means to prune down the number of players, who will be joined later by those based abroad  to get the main squad expected to travel to Venezuela for the event proper. Nigeria will play in the Group B alongside Lithuania and host Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Dolphin female basketball club of Lagos and  Nigeria Immigration club yesterday jump-started the Zenith Bank second phase female league in Ilorin just as defending champions and winners of the first phase, First Deep Waters  taking on Sunshine Angels of Akure.

Ahead of the competition, chairman of First Deep Waters, Babatunde Babalola, in a farewell message to the players shortly before they departed for Ilorin, urged the team to rap up the title chase at the close of the second phase so as to make the third phase in Lagos a mere formality.

That is good news.They are actually moving forward in their preparation and i hope when the tournament eventually start,they won't disappoint Nigerians.
