Former Edo deputy governor quits PDP for ACN

BARELY one week after one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Elder Sunny Uyigue, resigned his membership of the party, a  former deputy governor of the state, Rev. Peter Obadan, yesterday, announced his resigned from the party.

He cited what he described as irreconcilable differences and the travails of the PDP in the state, which, according to him, was orchestrated by the acts of "some demagogues", as reason for his resignation. He left  the party with over 41 other leaders  across the six local government councils of Edo North senatorial district.

Meanwhile, the Owan Renaissance, a socio-cultural organization in Edo, led by  Obadan, has disclosed plans to convene an Economic Summit that will help to chart the way forward for Owan people.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, yesterday, the former deputy governor said the vision of the group is to support a credible and broad minded leadership capable of carrying all ethnic groups along.

However, in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, Obadan narrated that "when I resolved with other NADECO leaders in exile to wrest power from the Abacha led junta and ensure the democratization of our beloved country, I had dreams for my state and in particular vision for Edo North whose leadership presented me as deputy governor in 1991".

He said after reviewing the situation in the state PDP which, according to him, culminated in the "senseless campaign of calumny capable of igniting anarchy and bloodshed, it has become expedient and wise that 1, along with these other leaders of conscience representing all their followers, resign from the party and we do hereby resign from PDP".
