Nigerian leaders lack courage to tackle corruption – Sen. Anah

Nsukka – Former factional Chairman of the defunct Nigerian People's Party, NPP, in the Second Republic, Senator Nathaniel Anah, SAN, has said the current Nigerian leaders lack the needed courage and dedication to tackle corruption and provide social amenities for the electorate.

Anah who tried to wrestle the control of NPP from the late Nigerian President and Owelle of Onitsha, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, during his tenure in the Senate, also identified dishonest leadership as part of the country's major problems.

He spoke to newsmen at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, shortly after receiving a merit award from the Faculty of Arts, during the Chinua Achebe Annual International Conference.

He explained that the country had not established stability and economic growth just as the people lack basic health facilities among other social services, blaming the challenges on corruption.

He said: "Corruption in government militates against national development and can be attributed to greed of leaders in Nigeria.''
