Gowon urges Boko Haram to accept dialogue

Former military Head of State, General Gowon declared today that it was high time the Boko Haram sect embraced dialogue and table their grievances.

Gowon was speaking at the opening of the Education Summit organized by the Oyo State Government in Ibadan.

Specifically, he declared that it is either the fundamentalist Boko Haram embrace dialogue or face fire for fire.

He also maiintained that the security agencies in the country needed the support of everybody in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency.

"Do you know how much it takes a responsible government to tackle terrorism any where in the world?  The government is trying its best," he stated just as he submitted that "this thing cannot be done overnight".

While condemning the insurgencies of the sect , General Gown urged them to lay down their arms and let peace reign in the country.

'"A lot of people have been killed and several others maimed as a result of the sect's actions, but we pray that they embrace dialogue because we can not continue like this," he said.

General Gown stated that Nigerians do not want the international communities to tag us as a terrorist country adding that many well-meaning people had appealed and were still appealing to the Boko Haram sect to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
