The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena are expected in Lagos today on a four-day visit toNigeria.
World tennis's most successful African-American sisters are coming to Lagos as part of their Nigeria's leg of the two-nation tour of Africa, while Johannesburg, South Africa is another city in Africa that the sisters will visit.
According to the Itineraries made public by the organisers of the visit, Serena is expected to touch down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by 3pm on Tuesday aboard Turkish Airline. Her sister, Venus is expected to arrive aboard Arik Air at 9pm same day. The sisters will be lodged at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos Island.
On Wednesday, Serena and Venus are to pay a courtesy visit to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola at the State House in Marina, with a media parley and a tennis clinic to hold at the Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club.
On Thursday, the tennis legends will pay a visit to the Government College, Osborne Road, Ikoyi and a red carpet Gala slated for the Federal Palace Hotel in the evening.
“Another exhibition match at the Lagos LawnTennis Club, Onikan is scheduled for Friday before their departure that day,” the organisers said.
The uniqueness of the exhibition game, according to the organisers, is that it will be the first time the sisters will pitch their strengths against eachother on the tennis court anywhere in Africa.
P.M.News gathered that the visit is on the platform of 'Breaking The Mould,' BTM campaign, the women's empowerment initiative, which has already garnered international support.
The organisation believes that Serena and Venus are role 'Mould Breakers', having gone through the crucibles of life to become what they are today.
"As 'Champions of Change', they are coming to Lagos to encourage more women to breakmoulds that have stood between them and their potentials," the organisers said.
Serena has won 15 Grand Slams singles titles, while Venus has captured seven.
Reports say both sisters hail from Badagry in Lagos State, Nigeria.
