Uyo – The immediate past Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Nsima Ekere, has urged the people of the state to support his successor, Mrs Valerie Ebe, in her new assignment.

In a statement signed by Ekere's Press Secretary, Mr Inem Ina, in Uyo on Sunday, the former deputy governor congratulated Ebe on her new appointment, saying it was well deserved, "given her pedigree, education, exposure and experience."

The former deputy governor expressed confidence in his successor, saying she would deliver in her new assignment.

He solicited the cooperation of citizens to enable her to succeed.

Ekere also used the opportunity to wish Gov. Godswill Akpabio and the people of the state well in the remaining years of the administration.

The former deputy governor, who is an estate valuer, resigned on Oct. 31 on personal grounds.

His resignation paved the way for the appointment of the first female deputy governor in 25 years of the existence of Akwa Ibom.

The new deputy governor, who was sworn-in on Nov. 3, was formerly the Commissioner for Environment and Culture and Tourism in the first tenure of Gov. Akpabio. (NAN)
