PhD Research Scholarship in the Department Ecology and Natural Resources Management for African Students at University of Bonn in Germany, 2013

Eligibility:

-Very good degree (Diploma, Master) in environmental sciences (preferably landscape architecture or geography; other such as agronomy, forestry, etc. if diploma or master thesis deals with land use planning questions) – very good writing skills in English are required for the dissertation – very good knowledge of French is required for research in a francophone country – good knowledge of environmental modeling approaches and GIS as well as programming (php, java, C, C++) is of advantage – experience in research is of advantage – work experience in development countries, esp. in West Africa is of advantage African candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Description: The PhD study should therefore develop (a) a framework how to assess generally the mutual impact of land uses on their specific and on the landscape scale related ES provision for a representative set of supporting, regulating, provisioning and cultural services. This addresses the development of a spatial design for measurements that accounts for impact gradients. (b) The question of land use structure and how to adapt the spatial assessment approach optimally for different land use pattern types should be addressed to ensure transferability. (c) The results should be used to revise the program code and GUI in GISCAME1 including the question of flexible Moore. Neighbourhoods for different impact gradients.
