Roles and responsibilities:   

•Review the study protocol including LQAS questionnaires.

•Participate in LQAS training for field data collectors and data entry personnel

•Participate in field practice of the LQAS instruments.

•Work with Principal Investigator (PI) and state lead consultant to supervise data collection.

•Work closely with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure that the protocol and survey design are being followed by other research team members

•Ensure that the appropriate authority have been sent letters or sensitized to make them aware of the field work. Ensure that supervisors have copies of these letters before they visit the community.

•Be with the research team to monitor progress and help resolve technical and logistical issues.

•Track that scheduled interviews or field visits are conducted within the planned itinerary

•Compile a report of research supervisors logs that includes challenges faced, problems resolved, and incidents that would be of interest to the survey and its organizers

•Provide feedback to the research team with regards to the quality of the interviewing process.

•Coordinate the logistics for field work. Each team should have a sufficient number of clean questionnaires, clipboards, pencils, per diems, letters of introduction, cell phone minutes, etc. Also, each team should have adequate transportation arrangement.

•Ensure quality of the data. For example, to ensure completeness and organization of data, for each lot all questionnaires completed should be gathered in one large envelope. The envelope will decrease wear and tear, and minimize loss. The envelope should be labeled with unique identifier (UI) for the LQAS lot.

•Ensure that all completed questionnaire are safely stored within TSHIP

•Ensure that all TSHIP equipment and survey-related materials are returned in working order

•Contact state level consultant on a regular basis to monitor progress and help resolve technical or logistical issues.

•Work closely with state level consultant and TSHIP program learning team to address any disciplinary action that is needed. If termination of a data collector or a supervisor is required, ensure that the process is carried out professionally.

•Make supervision field visits, especially if weak teams are identified.

•Conduct preliminary data analysis for the LGAs under supervision.

Skill set    – An advanced university degree (Masters Level) in Public Health, Research, Statistics, Demography or Social sciences. – 3-5 years of experience conducting quantitative research, particularly LQAS. – Experience analyzing and synthesizing quantitative data.  – Experience in training individuals to carry out quantitative research. – Excellent report writing skills is desired. – Good communication skill is an essential requirement for this assignment.  – Working knowledge of Nigeria would be an added advantage. – Should be fluent in spoken and written English (a requirement). – Team player. – Working knowledge of Hausa (a must).
