Eligibility: Medical researchers and bioscientists from the following countries are eligible to apply: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, The Palestinian Territories, United Kingdom.

Applicants should be at the early to mid stage of their research career.

-The scheme is open to both medical and non-medical graduates who have shown signs of a commitment to a career in research (e.g. having a higher qualification such as an MD or PhD).

-Applicants will typically be at lecturer and/or post-doctoral level.

-The research may be in any field within the broad scope of medical and bioscience research.

Scholarship Description: The scheme provides opportunities for biomedical researchers to travel between the UK and the Middle East. It offers applicants the chance to undertake short-term visits of up to four weeks to further their research experience and learn new techniques, with the aim of establishing research links and developing ongoing scientific collaborations. The aim of the scheme is to encourage researchers to experience an alternative research environment, to learn new techniques and develop ideas for future collaborations. The Fellowships are aimed primarily at young scientists embarking on a career in research. As part of the application process, applicants are required to identify an institution that they intend to visit and must contact and secure support from this institution and relevant department. The institution must confirm its willingness to host the applicants visit, as part of the Daniel Turnberg Travel Fellowship Scheme.

Duration of Awards: Awards are granted for the period of up to four weeks. The proposed visit should take place within 10 months of the date of award.

What does it Covers: Funding provision to an upper limit of £3,500 per fellowship (up to £750 of which can be used to cover the cost of airfares). Airfare and a subsistence allowance for a period of up to four weeks.

Selection Process: An awards committee comprised of key representatives from the Academy of Medical Sciences will oversee the process of the award. The Academy of Medical Sciences manages and administers the scheme and all inquiries should be directed to them.

Notifications: The selection panel will be heldin March 2013.
