IBM Predicts Computers able to hear, smell and taste by 2017

During the annual predictions of the technology company "IBM" about how emerging technologies will change our lives in the next five years, the company revolved around the human senses and forcast that over the next five years digital sensing will play a key role in life saving medical and environmental situation as well as day to day business.

The case of sight means pattern cognition being used to understand pictures in context. Taste sense will allow us to indulge in cravings without sacrifing our health. Hearing sense on computers will help in prediction and reducing the impact of catastrophes.

Previous predictions include air-powered batteries, living cities and ditching passwords completely in favour of biometric data. There are numerous attempts by several individuals and companies working on the same idea but it would be interesting to see how IBM's approach will contribute to technology advancement.
