Job description:

•   Responsible for providing production geological support to Asset Development; Drilling and Completions and Wells teams, as required.

•   As a member of the team, will be accountable for play definition, regional Stratigraphic framework interpretation, development of depositional models, identification of suitable analogs, regional mapping, developing an understanding of the geological controls on well productivity, well planning, overseeing well evaluation programs, interpreting well results, and using well data in context with the geological model to plan follow-up wells.

•   Geological model building and play definition, creation of play maps, and development of a sequence Stratigraphic framework for unconventional plays, identification of suitable play analogs

•   Quantification of realistic play and prospect volumetrics and risks

•   Determining suitable drill locations and well data acquisition to test the subsurface

•   Oversee critical evaluation activities during the drilling: mud-logging, coring, logging, pressure measurements, etc

•   Conduct post-drilling look-back analysis

•   Interpreting well and core data to build a facies/Stratigraphic framework and other types of geological models

•   Use these to plan follow-up wells

•   Actively coach and share experiences with less experienced staff

•   Integrate with other geoscientists and engineers to develop and maintain an up-to-date geological understanding of the plays and prospects, and make sure knowledge and lessons are transferred across teams and departments.

•   Work closely with a team of Geophysicists, Petrophysicists, Reservoir Engineers, Production Technologists, Drilling and Completions Engineers in carrying out all processes involving the gathering and collation of geological data, its interpretation and analyses, and their usage for subsequent recommendations/planning for exploration, appraisal and development activities.

•   Conduct geotechnical data analyses including the estimation of risk and uncertainty; provide interpretations and estimates and incorporation of the range of key geological inputs towards building a robust suite of subsurface deterministic and stochastic static models.

•   Reviews and analyses of development and production geological activities, proposals and studies to identify opportunities for optimization and further evaluations leading to increased ultimate recovery and associated economic benefit.

•   Critical review of field development proposals in conjunction with Reservoir and Petroleum Engineers to assess technical and cost/economic basis for the project.

•   Analyses of geotechnical data acquired from drilling operations (exploration, appraisal and development) and production activities.

•   Provision of geological input, and preparation of, well proposals (both Operated and non-Operated) which would include geological prognoses, drilling, logging, sampling and testing strategies.

•   Undertake technical geological evaluations for new business and provide recommendations to Head Office teams for approval, including evaluation of risk and reserves/resources.

•   Perform basin/play/prospect evaluations as applicable, including play element assessment and technical risk.

•   Monitor technical activity, budgets, AFEs, expenditures, production forecasting and proposals. Provide input to annual budgeting and reserves reporting to reduce risk exposure associated with assigned project(s).

•   Provide input to year end / midyear reserves booking and synthesis as well as economic analyses.

•   Participate in internal and external technical peer reviews.

•   Participate in economic modeling and undertake decision tree analysis.

•   Prepare reports and presentations and provide technical input to MBRs (Monthly Business Reviews).

•   Provide on the job training, mentoring and assistance and help develop capabilities of team members to enable them to perform their job effectively and efficiently.

•   HSE – attendance at critical safety workshops on existing facilities and projects when required.

Requirements:

•   Minimum of 8 years

•   Previous experience in a similar role with a strong working background in Geological interpretation and modeling.

•   Proven ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams

•   Experience of using Interpretation/Modeling software, preferably Petrel.

•   Experience of support of integrated 3D modeling projects

•   Up to date knowledge of technological developments, industry initiatives, etc

•   Experience of working in an Operator environment

•   Well-site Geology operations experience

•   Experience of supervising teams

•   BSc in Petroleum Geology, Physics, Geosciences or Engineering

•   MSc/PhD or other post-graduation qualification in a related discipline will be an added advantage.
