2013 ENREM Scholarships for Students of Germany, Mexico and other Latin American Countries

National Council of Science and Technology(CONACYT), Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and for Cooperation and Development (BMZ) jointly offers master's program "Environment and Resources Management (ENREM ). It is suported by DAAD to cooperate with the anchor country Mexico in environmental protection and sustainable resource management. The  scholarships are awarded to young professionals from Germany, Mexico and other Latin American countries who already hold a first university degree and includes study phases both in Mexico and in Germany. The  students can pursue their studies in the University of Cologne in Germany and at Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi in Mexico.

Study Subject(s): This scholarship is offered mainly in the field of Environment and Resources Management (ENREM) .

Course Level: This scholarship is available for pursuing master's degree.

Scholarship Provider:  National Council of Science and Technology(CONACYT), Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and for Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by DAAD.

Scholarship can be taken at: First two semesters in Mexico (The Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí) and the third semester in Germany(Cologne University of Applied Sciences), 4th Semester is for research in Germany, Mexico or any Latin American country.

Eligibility: -Applications are open to participants from Germany and all Spanish- or Portugueses peaking countries of Latin America.

-The university degree (Bachelor's degree) should be at the time the application returns are generally not more than six years.

-Hispanic candidates, the longer is the time of application than 15 months remain in Germany can not be accepted.

-Young professionals in the fields of environmental protection, resource management and sustainable development, which already have some professional experience.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The programme is aimed at young professionals from Germany, Mexico and other Latin American countries who already hold a first university degree and includes study phases both in Mexico and in Germany.

Scholarship Description: In July 2013, the bi-national Master's Programme "Environment and Resources Management (ENREM)" will be matriculating new students for the sixth time. ENREM is jointly organized by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí in Mexico. The programme is aimed at young professionals from Germany, Mexico and other Latin American countries who already hold a first university degree and includes study phases both in Mexico and in Germany. The programme structure takes an interdisciplinary and integrative approach, not only addressing questions related to the natural and environmental sciences but also taking the economic, political and cultural dimensions of the Latin American cultural area into consideration. For this reason, comprehensive political and sociocultural relations are components of the course alongside the technical subject matter. The university modules will be supplemented both methodologically and in content by preparatory Spanish or German language courses, modules for intercultural training, field excursions and interdisciplinary workshops on various topics. The programme stretches over 25 months, the first two semesters are spent in Mexico and the third in Cologne. The fourth semester is reserved for field research in a Latin American country or Germany and for writing up the Master's thesis. The course is held in Spanish during the Mexican study phase and in English during the study phase in Germany. Successful completion of the course results in a Master's degree from each of the two universities.

Number of Awards: Scholarships for 7 Mexican, 7 German and 7 applicants from other Latin American countries are offered jointly by the BMZ, BMBF and National Council of Science and Technology(CONACYT).

Duration of Awards: 25 Months( The program extends over 25 months, of which the students spend the first two semesters in Mexico and the third semester in the University of Cologne in Germany. The 4th Semester is for research in Germany, Mexico or any Latin American country and the writing up the results.

What does it Cover? The programme is jointly sponsored by the DAAD with resources from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT).

Partial scholarship for German applicants during the study phase in Mexico:

• During the study phase in Mexico currently about EUR 800,00 per person and month (depending on exchange rates, partly funded by DAAD and CONACYT)

• Travel subsidies for the journeys to Mexico and Germany

• Travel subsidy and monthly instalments during the field research period (up to three month), depending on the target country (funded by DAAD)

• health, accident, and liability insurance (funded by DAAD)

Full scholarship for Latin American applicants:

• During the study phase in Mexico currently about MXP 8430,00 – MXP 8.800,00 (depending on exchange rates) per person and month (funded by CONACYT)

• During the study phase in Germany about MXP 15.000,00 (depending on ex-2 change rates) per person for 6 months (funded by CONACYT) and probably a topping-up for max. 2 months sponsored by the DAAD

• Travel subsidies, also for the journey to the target country of the field research

• health, accident and liability insurance (partly funded by CONACYT and DAAD)

• study and research subsidy (funded by DAAD)

Selection Criteria: In addition to the academic achievements and the academic quality of the applicant the most important selection criterion is a convincing presentation of the academic and personal reasons for the planned studies.

How to Apply: Applications should be sent directly to the programme, at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (for German applicants) or the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi (for Latin American applicants). Documents must be submitted in digital form.
