FirstRand is offering Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship for South African citizens to pursue postgraduate study in any discipline at the internationally recognized university outside of South Africa. The scholarship worth of R 350 000 per annum is offered for a maximum of two years. The criteria for selection is excellence. The closing date for applying the scholarship is 1st March 2013.

Eligibility: -There is no age limit, but preference will be given to candidates under the age of 35.

-Candidates who are currently, or have been studying overseas, will not be considered for this scholarship.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: South African citizens can apply for the scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar scholarship, to the value of R350 000 per annum for a maximum of two years, is available to a South African citizen for postgraduate study outside South Africa in any discipline at the internationally recognized university of their choice. Applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.  Candidates are asked to note that the provision of the information outlined above does not guarantee a positive outcome.  The adjudicators will not consider support beyond a two year period.  Any extension beyond the first year will be subject to satisfactory progress reports being received from the candidate and institution concerned at the end of the first year of study. The decision of the adjudication panel is final and correspondence regarding their decision will not be entered into. The panel reserves the right not to make an award.

Duration of award(s): The scholarship is offered fora maximum of two years.

What does it cover? The scholarship is to the value of R350 000 per annum.

Selection Criteria: Excellence is the only criteria for selection. The successful candidate will have excelled academically in his chosen field of endeavour and will have been able to demonstrate

- leadership qualities;

-strength of character;

-community minded endeavours; and

- the potential to be a destiny changer in his or her chosen field.

Notification: Shortlisted candidates will be notified by the end of April 2013 and should be available for the final interviews to be held in Sandton, during April 2013. A final announcement will be made before the end of May 2013.
