Job Title: Accountant

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Organisation: Channels Television (Channels TV)

General Purpose:

The accountant will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting procedures.

Main duties:

1.   Compile and analyze financial information. To prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts.

2.   Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures

3.   Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

4.   Prepare financial management reports

5.   Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end reports

6.   Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures

7.   Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities

8.   Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities.

9.   Monitor and support taxation issues.

10.   Develop and maintain financial databases

11.   Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process.

12.   Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.

13.   Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues.

14.   Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures.

15.   Prepare, examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

16.   Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance and payment reporting and other tax requirements.

17.   Analyze business operation, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.

18.   Report to management on the finance of the establishment

19.   Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts

20.   Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeting costs to actual costs.

Bookkeeping Duties:

•   Record weekly deposits

•   Tracks billing and process monthly bill payments

•   Process bi-monthly cheque requests and re-imbursements.

•   Process bi-monthly payroll with ADP and records in quick books.

•   Track and reconcile petty cash accounts

•   Balance property management statements and records in quick books

•   Enter new budget annually.

•   Provide monthly reports on available funds for departments and committees.

•   Provide new employee and independent contractor reports.

•   Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

•   Accounting degree.

•   Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles.

•   Knowledge of economic principles.

•   Knowledge of Nigerian/applicable laws, codes and regulations.

•   Minimum of 5 years experience in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation and providing financial advice.
