Job Title: Legal Officer

Location: Lagos State, Nigeria

Job Description   Purpose Statements:

• To provide efficient, professional, legal, contractual and company secretarial support to the various companies under the Sahara Group of companies; whilst identifying risks, reducing liabilities, preventing litigation, ensuring compliance with laws and reducing general legal costs

Key Deliverables:

• Provide legal advice and support to the various companies under the Sahara Group umbrella of companies

• Conduct research and make enquiries as and when requested

• Undertake basic company secretarial functions

• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating low risk commercial agreements

• Provide support and legal advice on relevant industry laws, regulations and rules to the Legal Team

• Attending meetings with senior members of the team

• Provide support and first line action tasks assigned.

• Assist in organization and administration of the legal department

• Liaise with external solicitors working on the Company’s matters, litigation and transactions

Knowledge/Skills:

• Good knowledge of Nigerian laws and regulations

• Reasonable commercial and litigation background

• Drafting and negotiation skills.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office especially MS Word and PowerPoint.

• Ability to work as part of a team and with both internal and external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to take instructions and carry them out without being micro managed

• Must be a quick learner and willing to learn

• Must be dedicated and responsible  

• Must have the ability to spot issues and analyze them

Additional Information   Minimum Qualification / Experience:

• The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years post call experience, 1 of which must be core experience in a law firm or commercial oil and gas environment.

• Good planning and organizational skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and function efficiently whilst working to strict deadlines and shifting priorities

• Must be eager and quick to learn
