All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) yesterday inaugurated its campaign committees, which it charged to launch a house-to-house campaign for change with a view to gaining electoral success for the party in the April general elections.

Chairman, ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who performed the inauguration in his office, especially challenged the committees to work hard towards electing the party's Presidential Candidate, Ibrahim Shekarau, in the April 9 Presidential polls.

Onu heads both the Presidential and National Campaign Committees (PCC and NCC). On board the PCC are Shekarau's running mate and former Governor of Edo State, John Odigie-Oyegun, governors Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno and Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe States as members with the National Secretary of the party Ibrahim Shettima Lawan Ali serving as Secretary.

The NCC comprises members of the National Working Committee (NWC), with the Director-General of the Shekarau for Nigeria Campaign Organization as the secretary. There were also sub-committees on security, publicity research and mobilization.

Onu stressed the need for Nigerians to trust the ANPP with power, having experienced alleged colossal failure of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He told the appointees to consider their selection as a call to national service, taking into consideration the desire by Nigerians to have a change in leadership after the disappointing PDP led administration of Nigeria for more than 12 years.

Onu said the candidature of Shekarau would breathe fresh air into the country, when taking into account his performance as the governor of Kano State in the last eight years. However, he noted that the party supporters must not take the candidate's great performance for granted. According to him, " we must work very hard to ensure we deliver our candidate and his running mate, who is also a man of performance and credibility.

"From this moment, we should make extra sacrifice, we should serve as campaigns agents in our respective communities, as we move from state to state, local governments, wards and if possible from family to family to deliver the message of change to Nigerians and try to convince them to give us the mandate to lead the nation aright."

Onu admitted that the party had its fair share of distractions in the past but noted that the situation was behind it since the inception of his administration in September 2010.

Oyegun, who spoke on behalf of Shekarau, assured that the candidate was ready to take the message of deliverance to all the nooks and crannies of the country, with the support of the party.

His words: "For 12 solid years, we have lived on promises in this country. So the message to the people after 12 years of disappointment is what more do you need to convince them that it is time to try another party and for every justification, that party is the ANPP.

" I'm not saying this because I'm a top ranking member of the party but because I have been in the party. The party has been through fire; the party has been through all sorts of inducements and corruptive tendencies, all manner of threats and blackmail and what is left in the party today are the tested, the incorruptible, those who have no price tag on whom this nation can depend for its salvation."

Echoing Onu's position on the ANPP's past crises, the former Edo governor said the situation had created doubt in the media about the party's ability to move forward.

He observed: "We get a little bit of indifference in the press today because people have got fixated on the situation, which we have firmly put behind us. What we have today is a new ANPP of trusted Nigerians.

"Nigerians who have been through all sorts of temptations but have refused to bulge are in the ANPP. The message to the people is that it is they who are going to take full responsibility for their destinies by determining the fate of all parties whether mega of little parties."
