1.     Introduction

The Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) is presently a unit under the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education headed by a Director as the secretary of the Board. It is located at the Federal Ministry of Education Annex, 245 Samuel Ademulegun Street, opposite Arewa Suite, Central Business District, Abuja. It has its six (6) zonal offices located within the country as follows:-





  • North Central zone                     Minna

  • North East zone                           Bauchi

  • North West zone                         Gusau

  • South East zone                           Enugu

  • South South zone                        Port Harcourt

  • South West zone                          Akure


2.     Objectives

The Primary objectives of the Board are;



  • To make higher education more accessible to the less privileged and yet brilliant students   who could not have been able to afford the acquisition of such education

  • To reward, promote and encourage academic achievements and excellence

  • To augment the normal education and manpower development for high level manpower needs

  • To promote attainment of educational and national goals

  • To enhance consistent retention in schools thus reduction in the dropout rate.

 

3.     Functions of The Board

The main functions of the Board include the following:



  •  Formulating and Implementing of Federal Government policies and programs on foreign and local scholarship awards to deserving Nigerian scholars.

  • Organizing  various Scholarship Programmes National and International, National Awards (Nigerian awards) International Awards  (Bilateral Educational Agreement Awards, Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan and other International Aid Programmes).

  • Conducting Selection interviews for the selection of qualified candidates for the award of scholarship to study in Nigerian tertiary Institutions and for nomination of students for Bilateral and Multilateral Awards.

  • Processing the Remittances of Scholar's allowances.

  • Advising and Collaborating with States on Scholarship Policies and Programmes through the Annual coordinating Committee Meeting (CCM) of Secretaries of the Federal and State Scholarship Agencies.

  • Supervising and monitoring the activities of the Federal Government Scholars in Tertiary Institutions locally and abroad.

  • Liaising with other relevant MDAs on Scholarship matters.

  • Liaising with Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria on Scholar's Academics and Welfare.

  • Liaising with foreign Missions in Nigeria on  consular matters.

  • Collaborating with Nigeria missions abroad on scholar's Academics and Welfare.

  • Collaborating with other private scholarship-awarding organizations.

  • Disseminating other scholarship information to interested members of the public.




4.     Structure

Structurally, FSB has 2 divisions viz :-



  • Nigerian Award,

  • Overseas Award ( Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA), Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP))

  • Support Service Offices ( Accounts and Admin)

  • Six Zonal Offices.

5.     How to Apply

Intending applicants should go to the Application Center on the Website to view the category they are eligible for (Nigeria Award, Bilateral Education Agreement Award  or Commonwealth Award).



  • Application forms are obtained free of charge from  www.fsb.gov.ng

  • Applicants are advised to read the Requirements, Conditions, Rules & Rugulations details before commencing with the application process

  • Applicants are advised to make only one entry, those who make multiple entries will have their entries rejected.
