Ogun State - Ogun Sets Up Working Group on Oral Healthcare

Ogun State Ministry of Health has set up a Technical Working Group (TWG) on oral healthcare services to develop a framework and operational plan which would strengthen the service in the State. Inaugurating the group, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka noted that the TWG became necessary to further enhance preventive healthcare delivery which the Government of the day was committed to achieving.     Dr. Soyinka said there was need to implement oral health policy in the State urging the members to work assiduously and offer ideas on critical areas which could be useful in the areas of research. According to him, some of the terms of reference include reviewing and adaptation of the National Health Policy and recommendation for its implementation in conformity with Ogun Standard as well as identifying other stakeholders in oral health care financing.  He thanked the members for accepting to serve and enjoined them to offer and make recommendations on resource opportunities that could aid oral health care financing.In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Tunde Olowonyo observed that with the establishment of the group, “there would be an improvement in our oral care”. He urged the members to participate actively to achieve the goals of setting up the group and abide by the terms of reference.Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Oyin Sodipe, noted that oral health care was concentrated mostly in the urban areas and advised members of the group to make it more effective at the rural communities. She urged them to pay more attention to preserving dental equipment and work with the school health unit to attain this aim.In her remark, Chairman of the TWG, Dr. Omolara Jokodola defined oral health as a natural acceptable dentition which allowed an individual to speak, eat, socialize without discomfort, pain or embarrassment for a lifetime and contributes to general health.
