Ogun Assembly Members End Rift, Tender Apology

It appears the leadership crisis rocking the Ogun State House of Assembly which led to the suspension of some members and the breaking of the Assembly's mace, has been resolved as the two factions involved are reported to have settled their differences.

Senator Ibikunle Amosun with all the 26 members of the Ogun State House of Assembly and the Speaker Hon. Suraj Adekunbi at the Office of the Governor. This was after a meeting with the state governor, Mr. Ibikunle Amosun in the Governor's Office on Wednesday, where the aggrieved members agreed to settle their scores and work together.

Although what transpired during the closed-door meeting was not made known, the leading figures in the crisis said they had put the past behind them and ready to move on.

On his part, the state governor tendered an unreserved apology to the people of the state on behalf of the lawmakers, saying that such development was not in the character of the state. Governor Amosun also described the resolution of the crisis as good for democracy.

After the meeting which lasted for about two hours, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Suraj Adekunbi and leader of the rival group, Remi Hazzan, apologised to the people of the state for letting them down.

The fracas in the assembly followed the suspension of the Speaker after the Assembly leadership suspended four other members  over the composition of the Assembly's Tenders Board, which has been a subject of controversy among the lawmakers.
