The inclusion of the quartet has sparked off controversy as the four players were part of the Nigerian team to the 2011 AYC in South Africa and the Fifa Under-20 World Championships in Colombia.

Some argue that the players should have been excused from the 2013 AYC to make way for players yet uncapped at Under-20 level.

Obuh has now moved to explain the rationale behind his decision stating that the players are still relevant to his plans and also within the age limit for the competition.

"These players are still under the age of 20 and still very much relevant to my plans. Besides, they are not currently playing for any of the national teams so I believe it is proper to include them in my side," Obuh told supersport.com on Thursday.

Nigeria are the reigning AYC champions and will open their campaign against Mali at the Stade Ahmed Zabana, Oran on March 17.

Three days later, the Flying Eagles will face Gabon at the same venue before rounding off their preliminary campaign against DR Congo on March 23.
