The reason I dropped Yobo, Uche - Keshi

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has cleared the air on why he left out Joseph Yobo from the squad that will face Kenya in a World Cup qualifier in Calabar on March 23.

"It is not true that I'm systematically retiring Yobo from the Super Eagles. Yobo is still the captain of the Eagles and he remains in my plans for the future. I left him out because I don't really need him for the tie against Kenya," Keshi told Complete Sports yesterday.

"Yobo will still play for the Eagles but I need to see some other players and that is why I left him out. He will return in our next matches." On why Ike Uche and Nosa Igiebor were dropped from the team, Keshi said that Uche's form at the Africa Cup of Nations was poor and that the striker needs to pick up again before he gets recalled to the team.

The former Super Eagles skipper said Igiebor was dropped because of his visa issues which led to his staying back in Nigeria until last weekend when he went back to Real Betis, adding that all the 23 players who went to South Africa cannot be in the squad at the same time.

Keshi explained that the likes of Emmanuel Emenike, Ejike Uzoenyi and Obiora Nwankwo were left out because of one reason or the other, pointing out that Emenike was left due to the injury he sustained in South Africa while the other two were left out due to obvious reason.

Asked why he invited John Ogu from Academica, Keshi divulged that the young man was discovered during the Eagles training tour in Faro, Portugal, noting that Ogu impressed him and he called him to prove his worth.

I agree with Stephen Keshi on this two important decisions. He is very right to do what he did. We have better players right about now
