1.   JOB IDENTIFICATION

Division/Department: Exploration and Production

2.   ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly Reports to: Head: Opportunity Maturation, Development and Operations      

Indirectly Reports to: Managing Director/CEO OEPL

Supervises: Geophysicists, Geologists Reservoir Engineers,            

3.   JOB SUMMARY

• Will lead highly skilled multi-discipline exploration team and ensure optimum output and value.

• Will ensure all potential hydrocarbon leads / prospects are identified / defined.

• Will lead / guide / monitor all exploration studies; in-house, joint, IOC/contractor studies & associated costs.

• Will conduct multi-disciplinary geosciences studies / teams.

• Will work jointly with Exploration & Development / PSA (production sharing agreements) and JV partners in optimizing exploration and appraisal plans

4.   SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic

• Advises management on entry into new exploration and production opportunities.

• Participates in the negotiation of joint ventures and acquisitions.

• Participates in the valuation of new or potential acquisitions

• Participates in re-valuation of previously acquired properties.

Operational

• Develops detailed exploration project plans and budgets, and manages projects within time and budget constraints to deliver results without compromising quality standards.

• Directs exploration programs.

• Develops policies, procedures and standards for exploration work

• Undertakes geological field work and studies of data.

• Estimation of hydrocarbon resources and reserves.

• Identifying new exploration targets.

• Assessing of profitable opportunities for acquisition and development; making recommendations to Executive Management on drilling prospects with the highest recovery potential; carrying these through drilling to production.

• Participates in evaluation and development of properties to the production stage.

• Writing of reports and making maps and sections.

• Develops and makes presentations to investors and partners on prospect ideas.

• Supports Executive Management in the management of OEPL's human, technical and financial resources.

• Develops and enhances geosciences skills in people.

• Manages relations with JV partners, community and government at all levels and promotes the company's activities

5.   KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Ensuring new assets are assessed and matured to decision point.

• Managing reserves position of company and ensuring reserves-replacement ratio is at par with company expectations.

• Ensuring smooth partner, stakeholder and government relations.

6.   QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Relevant 1st Degree in Geoscience subject

• Minimum of 15 years exploration experience, including at least 5 years at a supervisory level and within a structured E&P multinational operator

• Some direct/indirect exposure to PSCs, JVs and other petroleum contracts.

• Commercial awareness/astuteness.

• Strong team leadership skills, and political savvy; able to build relationships with executives and staff at all levels to achieve business objectives

7.   KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

• Understanding of Oil & Gas Industry Dynamics.

• Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with available information.

• Experience in exploration and production of sandstone reservoirs

• Multi-disciplinary geoscience and hydrocarbon development cycle skills.

• Leadership skills and ability to effectively interact with management and team members to advance projects and ideas.

• Willingness to work extended hours based on drilling or operational needs.

• Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

• Strong project management skills. Must be able to oversee projects from prospect evaluation stage through permitting, drilling, and completion.

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to work with geoscientists, engineers, land and drilling teams.

• Good communication and presentation skills.
