Ogun State - 15 LGAs Benefit From Ogun Rural Road Project

 Fifteen out of the 20 Local Government Areas in Ogun State have benefitted from the on-going rural road rehabilitation schemes which commenced last month.

Commissioner for Works and infrastructure, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite who made this revelation in Abeokuta stated that under the scheme, 400 kilometres of rural roads had so far been graded and provided with culverts and laterite filling in Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Yewa North, Imeko Afon, Odogbolu, Ado Odo/Ota, Ikenne, Sagamu, Remo North, Ijebu Ode, Waterside, Ewekoro, Ijebu North and Yewa South Local Government Areas.

According to him, Ogun Waterside where 61.05km of roads were graded has the highest while Odogbolu where 7.5km were covered has the lowest, noting that the gangs work for two weeks in each of the four zones to which the 20 LGAs had been grouped.

The Commissioner explained that the number of kilometres covered in the various council areas depended on the identified needs and that bulldozers would be used to open up thick forest and foot paths stretching over several kilometres at both Odeda and Ijebu North Local Government Areas

The rural road scheme rehabilitation is part of the plan by the Amosun administration to ensure that the people in the various communities do not suffer any hardship or inhibition in their movements resulting from the coming rains.

The scheme would also ensure that “as government embark on urban renewal and rebuilding of infrastructure in major cities in the state, the residents in rural areas are not left behind as the government equally represent the interest of all and sundry.”
