Ogun State - Amosun enlists traditional rulers' support

..INAUGUARATES NEW CHAIRMAN OBAS' COUNCIL     Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has urged traditional rulers in the state to continue to demonstrate their commitment and support to the present administration through the effective mobilisation of their subjects in its mission to rebuild the state.     The governor gave the charge while inaugurating the new Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas; the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in Abeokuta, yesterday.     He challenged the custodians of culture to encourage all taxable adults to pay their taxes in order to enable government to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.     On the on-going road projects in the state which were recently taken-over by the Federal Government, Governor Amosun said that efforts to resolve the matter were in top gear, adding that, ‘’ there are no federal citizens, the state government would at the end of the day re-award the contract to a new contractor’’.     He assured the traditional rulers that every nook and cranny of Ogun State would benefit from his administration’s programmes.     ‘’New road projects would kick-start immediately after the completion of the over fourteen currently on-going in all parts of the state’’ he declared.     Amosun, who acknowledged the importance of traditional institutions, assured that the government on its part will continue to demonstrate commitment to the welfare of the Royal fathers as well as encourage their active participation in National fora and summits that will build their capacities to further contribute to the progress of the state.     He also promised to review all Laws and policies in the state to meet the challenges of modern day development.     “This inauguration is part of a re-engineering process to reposition all institution of governance to enable them effectively and efficiently discharge their duties. By law and practice, this council is highest advisory body to the government on matters relating to chieftaincy affairs and other communal issues.     ‘’ Let me also note that our royal fathers have distinguished themselves in this administration, by playing their fatherly role in their various communities.” The governor said.        The Governor who had earlier announced the approval for creation of a website for the Traditional Institution in the state, said “in a dynamic society like ours, positive change is not only necessary but also inevitable and if Africa is to meet up or overtake the advanced nations of the world, we must embrace this change in a rapidly technological age”.     Amosun while thanking the immediate past chairman, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo CFR, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egba Land, he prayed that the new Chairman’s tenure would bring good tidings in the state.     The new Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona CFR, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, in his acceptance speech promised to carry-out his duties with fairness and justice.     He commended the Amosun -led administration for the various infrastructural developments going on in all parts of the State , saying that, ‘’the rate at which we are going, our ‘Paris or ‘Dubai of Africa is right here in Ogun State”.     The paramount ruler who appreciated the present administration for having successfully recorded a change of baton in the state council of Obas, assured that, ‘’the council will not renege in its commitment to support the 5-Cardinal programmes of the state government.’’
