Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has called for urgent steps that could assuage the impact of the impending floods forecast by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, (NIMET).

Governor Dickson made the call during a meeting he held with the Bayelsa State Post Flood Management Committee in Government House, Yenagoa.

The meeting, which was convened at the instance of the Governor, was the second in three weeks to assess Government's preparedness to mitigate the likely effects of the flood.

He noted that with the conclusion of tour and on the spot assessment of communities affected by last year's flood, government expects a proposal from the committee on how best to handle the situation in the event of heavy flooding.

Hon. Dickson commended members of the committee for their resourcefulness and dedication to the task assigned as well as the report presented to government during the last meeting.

Chairman of the Post Flood Management Committee, Chief Francis Doukpola said they took a tour of some communities including Okoroma and Oluasiri in Nembe Local Government area.

There was also a power point presentation of the effects caused by the flood on infrastructures across the state.
