Mohammed Garba elected new President of the Federation of African Journalists.

                        The President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mohammed Garba has emerged as the new President of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ). The election took place at the Third Congress of the Federation which ended in Casablanca, Morocco Monday night, April 1, 2013.

Mohammed Garba was before now serving in the nine-member Steering Committee of the continental body which unanimously elected him to lead the group for the next three years.

Mrs Louisa Rogerio from Angola was elected as the Vice President, while Mr.Stanislas Nkundiye from the Democratic Republic of Congo was voted for as Treasurer.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Federation of African Journalists, Gbenga Onayiga said seventy-three delegates from twenty-eight member countries voted during the election which was observed by the President and the Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

In his acceptance speech at the occasion, the new President of FAJ who is also the President of the West African Journalists Association (WAJA) expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and assured them of his determination to take the association to greater heights.

In another development, Fatimah Abdulkareem, a Nigerian  was  elected as the Vice Chairperson of the newly formed Pan-African Gender Council.
